Rev. Greta Hietpas
Minister of Discipleship

I grew up in DePere, WI and graduated from UW-Milwaukee and UW-Madison. My husband Brian and I have three young adult children. Prior to accepting a call to ministry, I was a high school biology teacher, taught English in Japan, worked for the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, and was a stay-at-home mom. I have served FUMC as a licensed local pastor since 2009 and have graduated with a Master of Divinity degree from Garrett-Theological Seminary in 2018.

What is the best part of your job?

As Minister of Discipleship, I am involved in general pastoral ministry but am specifically focused on spiritual formation for all ages. It is an honor and joy to witness spiritual growth in another person, and I am blessed to be invited into the sacred process here at FUMC. And I love the people that make up this community of faith!

What is your favorite thing to do outside of work?

I love to just be with my immediate family, extended family, and friends, but as an introvert, I also benefit from quiet alone time. I enjoy doing jigsaw puzzles, reading, gardening, playing piano, traveling, attending musicals, and watching TV shows from England with Brian.

What is your favorite place on earth?

It’s a tie between Nepal and the Cinque Terre in Italy.

What is your favorite Bible verse (and why)?
Ephesians 3:20-21 “Now to him who by the power at work within us is able to accomplish abundantly far more than we can ask or imagine, to him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.”

Do you have pets?
We have a dog - a lhasa apso - named Maisie.
