Ministry with the next generation
“We will not hide them from their children; we will tell the next generation the praiseworthy deeds of the Lord, his power, and the wonders he has done.”
Children’s Ministries has the incredible responsibility of ensuring that our children, the next generation, are formed as Christians through learning the Bible, practicing our faith, and experiencing community. Children’s Ministries focus is children from birth through 5th grade. Because parents, families, teachers, and care givers are vitally important in the spiritual formation of children, Children’s Ministries includes all these people. The primary means of teaching at FUMC is our Sunday school program which runs yearlong during both services except on the 5th Sundays. We also offer Vacation Bible School, the children’s Christmas program, the Carnival, mission drives, nursery care during worship services, Bibles for third graders, camp scholarships and other opportunities for children and families.
FUMC offers yearlong Sunday school for three-year olds through 5th graders during the 9:00 am and 10:30 am worship services. Children are always welcome to attend the entire worship service. If attending Sunday school, however, they will begin in worship and then will be escorted to Sunday school by teachers or shepherds after Children’s Time. If parents are attending adult classes, children may sit with teachers or shepherds in worship until Children’s Time. Parents are always welcome to accompany children to Sunday school. Children will only be released to a parent or another approved adult after Sunday school, so we ask that you pick up your children immediately after the worship service has ended. In accordance with our Safe Sanctuaries Policy, each classroom has at least two adults. Any questions can be directed to Elizabeth Ross at email@example.com or call her at 262-542-4256.
9:00 am Sunday School
Preschool Sunday school for ages 3-5 is held in room 215. Rotational Sunday school is held on the lower level for 5K Kindergartners – 5th graders. The bulletin board outside of room 106 tells which room the children are in each Sunday.
10:30 am Sunday School
Rotational Sunday school for Preschoolers – 5th graders is held on the lower level. The bulletin board outside of room 106 tells which room the children are in each Sunday.
In order to encourage families to worship together, there is no rotational Sunday school on 5th Sundays. There is still preschool Sunday school during the 9:00 am service.
This year’s rotational theme is “Callings: God Chooses and Uses Us”. We use curriculum developed specifically for our children and include workshops taught by various teachers such as science, drama, cooking, computer, movies, art, and puppetry.
Sunday Nursery Care
Fun for kids. Peace of mind for parents.
Nursery care is available for children birth through age three during Worship and Coffee Hour each Sunday morning. The nursery is located in room 221.
The nursery is staffed with two adults at all times.
We at FUMC want your worship and educational experience to be as worry-free as possible. In order to provide parents with a “peace-of-mind,” our nursery staff uses a pager system to communicate in times of need. Pick up your pager when you drop off your child and know that the staff will page you if there are any concerns or needs while you’re in worship or Sunday school. See also our Safety Policy.

Safe Sanctuaries Policy
In July 2008, FUMC approved an updated Safe Sanctuaries Policy. An updated policy was approved in January 2018. This policy was instituted so that we can continue to keep our community and children safe. Some highlights of the policy include:
- The “Two Adult Rule”
- Windows in the classrooms
- Photo ID’s for all teachers
- Pager system in the nursery
- Medical Release/Permission forms for all the children
- Background checks for all volunteers working with minors
We also ask you to take responsibility for the safety of our children and youth in the following ways:
- DO NOT leave your children unattended before or after Sunday school.
- Children in preschool through 5th grade MUST be picked up from their classrooms after Sunday school.
- Medical/Permission forms MUST be completed and on file in the church office for anyone under the age of 18.
- Have a heightened sense of your surroundings.
- Help others identify you by wearing your name tag.
